Thameslink: Handover and Transition

Close collaboration was required to enable successful handover and commissioning of the infrastructure works that made up Thameslink Programme. Early planning ensured that the smooth handover to operations was accompanied by planned and effective management of the risks and opportunities arising from project close-down and absorption of the projects into acceptance by the long-term operators.

Transition risk was significantly mitigated through the strategy to group infrastructure projects into a series of Key Outputs. The project teams, operators and contractors then worked together to achieve a successful handover and to mitigate the risks of each opening stage.

This section of the Thameslink learning legacy shares the lessons that were learned during handover and transition phases of the projects that comprised Thameslink Programme.
